This week's movie is "The Right Stuff."
After Chuck Yeager breaks the supersonic barrier, many other U.S. Air Force pilots become test pilots flying at high speeds. Then in 1957, Russia launches its Sputnik satellite which in turn launches the international space race. Choosing from test pilots and others, NASA picks seven men that they deem have “the right stuff” to become astronauts. The men must go through rigorous physical and other testing in order to qualify. John Glenn, Alan Shepard and the others become icons and heroes as they become the first men to reach space. A number of accidents during the Mercury program test the courage of the pilots, who nevertheless persist in their endeavors and achieve great things.
