Library of Things

The Makers Carnival & Mini Golf funded a dream project that was otherwise unattainable with our operating budget or through the Friends' regular income streams.

In 2019, Mini Golf in the Library funded new collaboration tables, computer tables, chairs, and play furniture for the children's room.

In 2018, the inaugural event funded new A/V equipment used for classes and lectures: TV and cart, projector, motorized screen, and installation labor.

2020's dream project was the most ambitious yet!

Thanks to our donors, we had the funds to start our own Library of Things! What's that, you may ask? Well - let us explain!

Who says the library should only lend books and movies? What if you could borrow a check engine code reader so you can find out what's wrong with your car before you go to the mechanic? What if you could borrow a mobile projector for that big presentation? What if you could sample a ukulele before paying for lessons?

Borrowing such things from the library may seem strange, but if you think about it it's really just an extension of what the public library already does. Libraries are the ultimate democratizing institutions. You don't each need to purchase thousands of books and expensive databases--the publicly funded library does so on behalf of all its community members and all its community members get to share in the bounty. There's no reason why the bounty can't extend beyond the traditional...that is, things we read, listen to, and watch,
