Rate: $16.07/hour
Up to 15 hours a week: Thursday 9:30-2:30, Friday 12:30-5, Saturday 9:30-3

The work: Library assistants are first and foremost representatives of the library. You will be working at the library’s public service desks as a member of a team to provide excellent customer service. You will also be required to become a passport acceptance agent (training provided). Duties include but are not limited to: patron assistance at the circulation desk (checkout, discharging, renewal, patron registration, settling fines, etc); patron assistance at the children’s desk; shelving; searching for materials in the catalog and on shelves; packing for interlibrary loan deliveries; and other duties as required. Light lifting and bending required.
Basic Qualifications:
High School degree
US Citizen
Comfortable with computers, the internet, basic MS office, and mobile devices
Flexibility to cover additional shifts
Recommended (but not required) qualifications:
Experience working or volunteering in a library setting
Experience with Koha ILS
Foreign language proficiency
Premium (absolute must have) qualifications:
Amicable personality and demeanor
Willingness to learn and try new things

This position will play a critical role in shaping the future of adult services at the library and require high-level decision-making in regards to exemplary customer service, programming, collection management, community engagement and technology. The successful candidate will be a key figure in future implementation of a planned “Library of Things,” non-dewification, technological/digital upgrades, and the constant reimagining of what it means to be a successful public library. Inherently lazy candidates, those uncomfortable with change at breakneck speeds, or those who have no desire to challenge the status quo of librarianship need not apply.
