Fitness is beneficial for the human body, both physically and mentally, throughout our lives. Physical Therapist Katherine Pride keeps us fit through the transitions that come with aging.
It is now common knowledge that physical activity can be beneficial for the human body, both physically and mentally, from our younger years and beyond throughout the aging process. This presentation is designed to discuss women’s fitness and how it can change throughout the decades of life. The overarching goal is to use the established research to identify what types of exercise can benefit a woman’s body and mind throughout the lifespan. Concurrent goals are to identify pelvic floor conditions that can affect these phases of life and how exercise can be beneficial for addressing this as well. The bottom line is empowerment. We can do better when we know better.
About the presenter: Katherine Pride, PT, DPT, is a physical therapist and pelvic floor specialist who treats orthopedic, neurological, pregnancy and pelvic health conditions. Katherine grew up in a suburb outside of NYC surrounded by a big family of Giants fans. She then went to both undergrad and PT school at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA as part of their continuous program. The city of Pittsburgh still holds a special place in her heart. Katherine has been a therapist with Drayer Physical Therapy for nearly 10 years, and she has always enjoyed working with orthopedic and neurologic populations, including vestibular dysfunction, but more recently has been treating pelvic health. This includes pregnancy and postpartum conditions, incontinence, prolapse and pelvic pain conditions. In her free time, Katherine enjoys reading, baking and spending time outside with her young children! She believes in treating a person as a whole, not as their diagnosis, and that self-advocacy and a continuum of care between health care providers can help achieve this.
