Clan Mother Shelley Windamakwi DePaul will speak about the "Four Crows" or Four Times of the Lenape: Pre-colonial, Colonial, Hiding Time, and how the Lenape people are active in our homeland today.
Shelley DePaul serves on the Council of the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania as Clan Mother, Keeper of Language and Treaty Signer Liaison. She teaches Lenape Language classes and workshops and presents lectures and educational programs on Lenape history and culture. She has worked for the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania since 2002 as Genealogy Researcher, Historical Researcher, Lenape Language Specialist, and Educator.
Her presentation will focus on the past and present of the Lenape people in our homeland, covering the “Four Crows” or four times of the Lenape: Pre-colonial, Colonial, Hiding Time (emphasizing the people who remained in the area and ways they had to assimilate and hide their culture), and how the Lenape people are active in our homeland today.

Common Grounds is a local 501(c)3 and ongoing series that explores and facilitates civil conversation on race, political beliefs, gender, creed and more, celebrating diversity in Roxbury. Presentations in partnership with Roxbury Public Library since September 2020 have included a virtual workshop Skills for Bridging the Political Divide through Braver Angels, community panels on women and leadership, and a local panel On Race and Racism: A Roxbury Conversation, and Black History: From Civil War to Black Lives Matter, Allyship and Inclusion, a discussion on the film “Brian Banks” and Black People’s Incarceration, Unlearning False Racial Myths, a LGBTQ+ Living/Personal History Panel, an LGBTQ+ panel on pronouns, acronyms and gender identity, and substantial celebrations in honor of Juneteenth, Hispanic Heritage Month, and Black History Month.
