Dan Rose celebrates the life of Hedy Lamarr, a Hollywood star and inventor whose WWII innovation helped create WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth. Discover her legacy as a glamorous yet groundbreaking figure.
Actress and inventor, Hedy Lamarr was touted by MGM as “the most beautiful woman in the world.” Born Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler in 1914 to Austrian-Jewish parents, by age 18 she had become a European movie star. Discovered by Louis B. Mayer, Lamarr was typecast as a glamorous seductress, who became famous for her dramatic performances, both on and off screen. Smart, witty, mercurial, and underestimated, Ms. Lamarr in addition to her acting, co-invented WW II technology (for Allied torpedoes) that led to today’s WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth. Learn more about this controversial, misunderstood, and multi-talented beauty – the only screen star inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. This presentation contains selected video clips.
