This week's movie is "The Kitchen."
In 1978 in New York City, three women, Kathy Brennan, Ruby O'Carroll and Claire Walsh, find themselves faced with extreme poverty when their husbands are sent to jail for crimes committed as part of the Irish Mob. Since most employers won't hire mothers, the women can't earn the money they need to pay their bills. The mob bosses promise to help them over the 24 months that their husbands are supposed to remain in prison, but the money they receive isn't even enough to pay rent. Raised to believe that they should do whatever's necessary to survive and angry with the bosses who they feel have forgotten the meaning of family, the women decide to take over their husbands' protection and other rackets. Each woman has something to prove.
Rated R (for violence, language throughout and some sexual content). Runtime is 104 minutes. Action & Adventure/Drama. Released in Theatres on August 9, 2019.
