Roxbury resident Dan Rose gives us a glimpse into Edward Hopper and his panoramas of 20th century American life: cityscapes, country sides, coastal New England and urban interiors.
Edward Hopper portrayed a panorama of 20th-century American life: cityscapes - buildings, apartments, rooftops, empty streets; country sides: roads, fields, barns, abandoned homes; coastal New England: harbors, sailboats, lighthouses. His most recognizable art reveals people alone in urban interiors: theatres, motels, offices, restaurants, diners.
Why do so many Hopper paintings - people, places, and even buildings - suggest movie stills of quiet moments from a dramatic film? Why does Hopper’s art keep growing in its universal appeal and critical acclaim? We will discuss these and other questions in a presentation of Hopper’s artwork.
Note: "Edward Hopper's New York" exhibit at the Whitney Museum runs until 3/5/23. though reserved tickets are sold out, contact the museum about getting "same-day" tickets.
