SCORE, the nation’s largest network of volunteers & expert business mentors, helps small businesses plan, launch, manage & grow. Local mentors & businesses share how they have benefitted from SCORE.

SCORE, a volunteer, non-profit association affiliated with the Small Business Administration, provides free, in-depth business counseling for business owners and small businesses, providing assistance with starting a business, writing a business plan, and helping successful firms in planning for expansion.

Local SCORE mentors and local businesses that have benefitted from their experience and mentorship share their experiences on a very local level.  At this event, you will hear:

  • What SCORE can offer your business
  • Testimonials from local businesses that have benefitted from SCORE and reached their business objectives
  • Opportunities to volunteer for SCORE

At the event, we will hear from several SCORE clients.  Chris Keenan, owner of WeGetLeads.com out of Succasunna. WeGetLeads.com is a very successful company serving a niche market, providing lead generation for pest control companies.  Chris provides custom websites, advertising on major networks, high conversion rates, tracks of all leads, actionable leads.  He leverages his expertise and knowledge of internet marketing for pest control companies, connecting his clients with homeowners actively seeking a pest control provider.  His pest control clients get leads that they turn into profit.  Chris has been a SCORE client since June 2017.

Kathy Sheldon’s goal was always to own her own business. After 20 plus years of serving in management positions in various social services agencies, she did just that. Prasada In Home was started seven years ago. This was after several attempts of starting other businesses including a coffee shop, a wine tasting business, real estate, event planning, among others. She found success with Prasada In Home which primarily serves as a mental health recruiting agency. Prasada In Home recruits and hires licensed therapists, behavioral assistants, parent coaches, and respite caregivers to provide services in the homes of families who have children who struggle with mental health challenges, autism or other developmental disability. In addition, she owns Prasada Center, located in Mt. Arlington, which provides a Day Habilitation program for young adults with disabilities. In 2023 Prasada is expanding further and will be opening an outpatient counseling practice in Randolph.  Kathy has a Masters in Counseling Psychology and a MBA in Healthcare Management. She also published a bestselling book with a number of other women business owners called Women Who Pivoted Post Pandemic.  The turning point for Kathy in finding long term success with Prasada was learning from her other business endeavors, learning through mistakes and failures, and looking for support in areas that she was not an expert in. She looked to SCORE when she started Prasada In Home for advice on getting her business started. Then again a few years later, when she needed assistance in marketing so her business could stand out in a competitive industry. Now she hopes to help other business owners who are looking to start or grow their businesses by sharing her challenges, successes and expertise by joining SCORE as Mentor.

In addition we will hear from Bob Schiff, a SCORE mentor for almost ten years.  He has vast experience in sales and sales management, spending the bulk of his career in developing clients in various consumer businesses.

Some of the lifelong learning services and counseling available through SCORE include: selecting a legal structure, securing funding, preparing a business plan, developing marketing and sales strategies, working in international trade, using internet and web site facilities, leveraging blogs and social networks, buying or selling a business, learning the ins and outs of a particular business, choosing a specific branch of an industry, understanding day-to-day operations of a particular business, managing business operations and personnel, learning about not-for-profit organizations, and advising about various SBA programs and their availability.

This program is a part of the ongoing Business Beyond Basics series.  Business Beyond Basics provides continuing education programs that bring businesses and the community together to network, learn and advance.  Produced jointly by Roxbury Area Chamber of Commerce and Roxbury Public Library.
