Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese martial art that involves a series of gentle physical movements. It is frequently described as meditation in motion – also medication in motion. It promotes serenity and is a mind-body intervention. From a physical standpoint, Tai Chi helps improve balance, agility, posture, breath, and more. It can be used for the treatment and prevention of psychosomatic disorders involving stress, such as hypertension, respiratory ailments, gastrointestinal problems, headaches, pain, dermatitis, ulcers, and more. For this class there is a $5 fee payable online with your registration.
Tai Chi as a relaxation intervention is known to benefit anxiety, depression, blood pressure, to improve immune function, to increase blood levels of endorphins which interact with the receptors in your brain that reduce your perception of pain. Endorphins also trigger a positive feeling in the body.
Wear comfortable athletic clothing and sneakers. Program is geared for adults; interested teens are welcome.
About the Instructor: Michael Celeste brings a wealth of martial arts experience to his role as Owner and Instructor at AFA Martial Arts school, a position he has held for the past seven years. With over 25 years of practice in martial arts, Michael has remained mainly focused on both Tai Chi and Wing Chun for the last 17 years. He is also certified to teach the 52 Blocks boxing style and is currently studying Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He has used his martial arts expertise to concurrently own and instruct at CKO Kickboxing Roxbury.
