Come hear local singer-songwriters -- Mary and Margi Pierce, Rees Shad, and Bernie Drury -- perform for 30 minutes each.
Mary and Margi Pierce: Mary Pierce, Singer/Songwriter of Celtic/Folk/American music, shares her original and inspiring music through her 4 albums: Miles Away, Dublin Bay, Hideaway and Memory Road with her band Women Folk. Born in White Plains, New York and raised in Connecticut and Rhode Island, Mary has been inspired by her family, as well as many Irish and American Folk artists. Her writing began after a trip to Ireland –she says “I came back and was writing Folk music with an Irish lilt, it just came to me”. Her deep appreciation for Folk music, her inspiration of the beauty of nature and love of the human spirit can be heard and felt throughout her songs. As songs were completed, she would share them with her sister, Margi in her old room when she came back for visits. It was the beginning of a creative and spiritual journey of sisters. Margi collaborated closely with Mary on the first album, Miles Away, with beautiful piano arrangements and seamless vocal harmonies. Mary and Margi look forward to cutting a 5th album together of Mary’s originals in Fall 2025.
Rees Shad: Over the course of a prolific 40+ year career, 32 releases and 17 solo albums, Rees Shad has crafted music that is both poignant and profound. He is dedicated to crafting short-story songs that cross genre lines to serve the spirit of each tale he weaves and engage his audiences in deep and meaningful ways. Shad’s latest release Porcelain Angel is being lauded for its “grace and elegance” (Americana UK), “all-knowing tonality” (Americana Highways), and for “pushing the boundaries of musical storytelling” (Rogovoy Report). But Shad has many other hats on his hat rack. He is a luthier, an award-winning educator, developer of curriculum and programs in many forms of media including game design and digital design, spent over a decade running a world class recording studio, oversaw a publishing company, as well as a record company and interactive marketing firm.
Bernie Drury: Music changed Bernie’s life in 1976 when he spent nearly a year busking through France and Italy playing at outdoor cafes, the Paris metro, night clubs and colleges. His songwriting is influenced by storytellers whose songs range from serious to lighthearted. Favorites include John Prine, Jim Croce and Lyle Lovett. Today he is a proud member of Skylands Songwriters Guild in Morris County, NJ, and co-hosts a monthly Songwriters Circle. A full-length CD is coming in 2025.
