While the origins of Thanksgiving begin with the 1621 meeting between English colonists and members of the Wampanoag peoples, there is much more to the story. Presented by Alexander Clemente.
While the origins of Thanksgiving begin with the 1621 meeting between English colonists and members of the Wampanoag peoples, there is much more to the story. The institution of this holiday in the American calendar has an interesting story that involves both Federal and individual State decisions. This lecture will also include the development of various Thanksgiving traditions and even a bit about the Canadian version of the holiday.
About the Presenter: Alexander Clemente has worked in education for more than 20 years. He currently serves as a professor at both William Paterson University and the County College of Morris, specializing in ancient and medieval history. His involvement with Crane’s Mill came about through his prior acquaintance with Director of Community Programming Nicole Smith, who invited him to continue his lifelong learning presentations at the community when she came on board. In addition to speaking at Crane’s Mill, Alexander presents lectures and programs for libraries and other groups throughout the area. Though his “day job” involves teaching to younger students, he loves having the opportunity to engage with senior learners.
