Join us for an unforgettable musical journey that honors the legendary artists who shaped the soundscape of jazz, rhythm & blues, and soul.
From Jazz to Soul is a vibrant showcase that celebrates the timeless artistry of Black vocalists—both female and male—whose voices defined generations and continue to inspire audiences today.
From the elegance of Ella Fitzgerald and the emotional depth of Billie Holiday, to the soulful power of Aretha Franklin and the dynamism of Etta James, Volume 1 pays tribute to the groundbreaking women who blazed a trail from jazz clubs to Motown stages. Volume 2 expands the journey with a salute to the remarkable male stylists—from the velvet tones of Nat “King” Cole and the genius of Duke Ellington to the enduring soul of Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, and Stevie Wonder.
Together, these volumes weave a rich tapestry of unforgettable melodies and stirring performances. Whether swinging to the rhythms of jazz or swaying to the grooves of soul, audiences will be moved by the spirit, resilience, and brilliance of these musical icons. From Jazz to Soul is more than a concert—it’s a heartfelt tribute to the artists whose legacies live on in every note.
About the Artist: Rhonda Denét is proud to be the founder, manager, and primary performer for the Silver Fox Songs showcase series. This project offers her the opportunity to combine her passion for singing the classics with sharing the wonderful stories behind the songs and the artists who recorded them. A star in her own right, Denét began studying music at an early age. Her passion led her to earn a Bachelor of Music from New York University and a graduate degree in Arts Administration from Florida State University’s School of Music. Since 2007 she has been active in the professional music scene throughout the New York Metro area. In addition to performing the Silver Fox Songs series, Rhonda performs with her band The Bad Cats and as part of several music and theater projects. She has also recorded three albums of original music that were released in 2010, 2013, and 2017. When all in-person concerts were canceled in 2020, this allowed her time to develop virtual performances by way of pre-recorded concerts, a regular YouTube mini-concert series called BLISS BREAKS, and live streamed concerts via Zoom and Facebook Live. Now that in-person performances are slowly returning, she can offer those who attend a way to extend their experience with multi-media programs on SilverFoxSongs.com. In addition, these virtual showcases will now be offered to organizations across the country.
The performance will take place in the center of the library. Register online or by calling Roxbury Library at (973) 584-2400.
Funding has been made possible in part by funds from Morris Arts through the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
