This week's movie is "Blinded by the Light."
It's 1987 in Luton, England. A British teen with a Pakistani heritage named Javed feels like he can't be his true self. He wants to be a poet, but his conservative father thinks that writing won't get him far. The two argue regularly about Javed's future. He must also deal with racism both at school and in public. Javed believes that he'll never be able to achieve his dreams. One day, another student insists that he needs to listen to the music of Bruce Springsteen because the lyrics about the working class reflect the struggles of Pakistanis living in Britain. Javed discovers that they do more than mirror his life. They also inspire him to pursue his dreams.
Rated PG-13 (for thematic material and language including some ethnic slurs). Runtime 114 minutes. Comedy/Drama. Opened in theaters on August 16, 2019.
