Erin McGowan Sassaman, author of How to Talk About Race: Why Racism in America Starts With White Privilege, is our neighbor living in Kenvil. McGowan shares key insights from her book, including why understanding the history of systemic racism is essential to any conversation about race and racism today.
About the Author/Presenter: Erin McGowan Sassaman is a high school social studies teacher in Scotch Plains, NJ, and mother of two bright, beautiful girls. She has a politics degree from New York University and Masters in School Counseling. Because the classes she teaches have been filled with rich discourse amongst teenagers about topics that make grown adults queasy, she offers a little bit of insight into how to possibly replicate that in “real life” for the reader.
